Pretty soon here, we’ll be offering the majority of our catalog for digital download. We’re waiting on a few minor details here and there, but it’s something we’re close on. What’s more, they’ll be cheap. Not sure exactly what those prices will be just yet, but as soon as we know more, we’ll let you know.

Releases that will be available are:

So, that’s the news for now. We’re working on booking some more shows locally, too, so keep your ear to the ground. In the meantime, we could use some more Twitter followers.

We Came, We Saw, We Destroyed Some Equipment…

This thing happened. Friday night at The Avenue in Cov. was our first proper show in 8 years or so, and it went very well. We’re happy with it. The Frankl Project and New Third Worlds were both PHENOMENAL, and the folks at the Avenue couldn’t have been more accomodating.

All told, it’s exciting to be back on the horse. Next steps: we’re working on some new songs & looking to book more shows. Recording is on the horizon. That’s pretty much all there is, I suppose.

New upload: Koan on WAIF’s Alien Transmissions from February 2000

This is pretty old (duh), but I thought you might enjoy. It’s a recording I found of Koan playing on Alien Transmissions. I remember doing this; it was hot–very hot–in their studio. A couple of the guys ended up playing in their drawers. There were four or five people who showed up to join in the fun. You’ll hear some applause and chatter between songs; that’s the folks who were awesome enough to come hang out with us.

Notes on the songs: You’ll notice changing levels and stuff during the first song, which is normal or whatever for sound mixing… Chris had just joined a couple weeks before and had just learned the songs, so we played a couple he didn’t know just for fun. As is typical for Chris, he took it like a champ and absolutely killed it anyhow, because he’s a badass.

If you’re one of two or three people, you’ve noticed that I’ve been hammering away at this new site for the last few days. Exciting, or something.

Not a lot to say right now other than we’ve been getting together to play more and more often, as time and life allows. We’re looking forward to playing some shows in the near future–we’re beginning to get the ol’ feelers out there to get something booked so we can blow your socks out your ass again.

New stuff on the way in the coming months, y’all. Strap in, and see you soon.

Over the past couple decades, the members of Koan have been entwined in each others’ musical histories. Through various bands and ages, they’ve always found themselves around one another. Somehow. It seems only natural, then, that they would return to this place they’d grown so comfortable with–and fond of–years before.

Koan formed in 1997 in Northern Kentucky. They operated intensely through 2001 and subsequently took a hiatus when college came a-calling. Its members then formed and led various groups over the years (Film Caught Fire, Junior Revolution, Mara, Swearengen) while life’s gears ground away.

The gentlemen of Koan have resurfaced here and there to play a show every now and again around the Cincinnati area. As of 2011, the band looks to pick back up and is beginning to work on new material. You’ll find updates, music new and old, as well as photos and videos as they become available.
